The study regarding the expansion of the Cochin Rail Project has been undertaken by Rail India & Economic Service (Rites). Kochi Metro Rail Ltd (KMRL) has given green signal for a study of its future expansion. The first expansion phase of Kochi Metro rail project is to Thripunithura. Around Rs.5000 crores costs the construction of this phase with a length of 25.253km from Aluva-Thripunithura.

From the study of Kochi Metro Rail, suggests an expansion from Aluva to Angamaly via Nedumbassery airport. This makes Nedumbassery boom into the field of real estate also the expansion of International Airport makes that too.
